The FarmDroid is a three-wheel unit with two driven wheels on the rear axle driving and steering the robot and the third is a free-pendulum front wheel. The robot can vary the rotational speeds of the rear wheels, as well as using active steering. This combination allows the robot to hold its direction even on undulating ground.
The robot is controlled by two GPS antennas on the front and back and this helps achieve the highest possible precision when planting, also helped by the slow speeds at which it operates. The precise angle and position of the robot are recorded by a sensor which is taken into account in the control system and allows sub 1cm planting accuracy.
The robot can be configured to work both in the sowing direction and in the opposite direction and runs in a defined pattern resulting in excellent weed removal.
